Small Kitchen Makeover

Small Kitchen Makeover

We have lived in our new apartment for about two years now, and I’m finally getting around to organizing the kitchen.  Why is it talking so long? Well when you have a kitchen that is 8’3″ x 10’6″  it can be a little overwhelming to find space to put things.  Below is my floor plan. The appliances are placed a little different, but you get the idea.

When we moved in they had recently added a brand new white stove and refrigerator.   The hood over the stove and the cabinets were an ugly shade of cream with wooden knobs to match. They didn’t look very good with the new appliances, so I painted them white and replaced the knobs with brushed silver. Looks so much better!  I don’t have very much counter space, so at the back of the kitchen I added a microwave cart. It’s really nice because it has two levels of shelves underneath and hooks on the side, which came in handy for hanging my cast iron pan and pot holders.  I found this one at Target for $50.

Above the sink for some reason they didn’t add any cabinets, so there is a space there that’s a little wider then a double sided sink.  My boyfriend is going to hang a pan rack and build a few shelves for extra storage, and he hung cup hooks under the cabinet for our coffee mugs to make extra room in the cabinet next to the sink.  He and I are also very much into cooking and we have to many spices so to free up even more space, he made a spice rack for above the stove.  He’s pretty spiffy like that =).

That’s all I have for now, but since my boyfriend is on vacation this week I am hoping he will get the selves and pan rack up! Then I will show you photos of the finished kitchen.

I know this is just basic remodeling, but I hope maybe it was helpful to those of you with small kitchens like me.  And if you have anything you have done that could come in handy to help me out I would really love to hear it.  =)

Photos to come!

Thanks for stopping by. Hope you come back to see it finished!
